Ensure no cables are connected to the monitor at this time. I too kept getting that notice to check the cable. This is the simple little trick that worked. My settings for the source control is Auto-Switch Source is switched OFF, and Default Source is setted to HDMI. One thing to note though is when I switch to the DVI, the monitor only shows the DVI port to be active, but when I swich to HDMI, monitor status shows that both HDMI and DVI are active.

Now, I have both the PS3 and laptop connected to thie monitor, and I'm able to switch between these two sources. The old HDMI cable worked now when I plugged it in. I then unplugged the new HDMI cable and swapped it for the old one to see if it was the monitor having issues. The monitor then went to sleep and then instantly powered back on displaying my desktop from my laptop. I plugged in the HDMI cable and nothing happened with it displaying 'Check Video Cable'. So, I turned the monitor on and set it to HDMI in source control. I unplugged the power cord, plugged in my a new HDMI cable to the monitor's port while leaving the DVI-HDMI cable still plugged in to the DVI port but did not connect that HDMI to anything. Each is a different thread and I separated them with dotted lines so as not to confuse. Here are a few suggestions from others that sometimes workd (didn't work for me, though). Then, I just unplugged the VGA.viola! Has worked flawlessly for the last few days, so thought I would post it here and save someone countless hours of frustration. Then, I tried something that I was sure would NOT work: I plugged in BOTH the HDMI and the VGA at the same time. No amount of resetting made any difference. Then, I realized that the monitor was showing that HDMI connection was active but, for some reason, couldn't switch (either forced or manual). I tried EVERYTHING suggested here and NOTHING would work. I purchased a displayport to HDMI cable and that's when the dreaded 'check cable' message haunted me. This added a displayport option, so I thought it an easy 'upgrade' from standard VGA. I tangled with this headache after buying a base station for my Thinkpad notebook computer. If anyone could help that would be great. Is my monitor broken? I tried calling HP support, but after thiry minutes on the phone they told me they can't help because my warranty is out. I tried unplugging everything and holding down the power for 30 seconds like it said in the other thread, but that didn't seem to do anything either.

I tried connecting it to another computer, no luck, and also using another HDMI cable, also no luck. I can't navigate the menus or do anything while the message is up, so have no way of changing any settings. When I plug it in, it tells me that it detects the HDMI cable, but then a message saying 'check video cable' shows up, and then the monitor goes to sleep. I had my laptop connected to the monitor, and it was working perfectly. Hi, I realized that this question has been answered on these forums before, but nothing that I tried will seem to fix the problem so I was hoping I could get some help.
